First up is this year's 20th annual Human Rights Watch World Report which surveys the current state of human rights abuses in more than 90 countries using the resources of the Human Rights Watch research staff working in concert with local human rights groups in nearly each of the countries in question.

The book complies detailed highlights from dozens of reports published throughout the year by the HRW organization and focuses on main categories of abuse like international justice, health and human rights, refugees and displaced persons issues, incarceration and prisoner treatment, internecion, internment, women's and children's issues as well as abuses in both terrorism and counter-terrorism actions. The wide-ranging report details the latest governmental and NGO positions on everything from genocide, the state of political prisoners, media and voter suppression, torture, unlawful detainment and just about every abuse known to man in a host of counties from large countries like China, Russia and India to smaller and sometimes despotic regimes in places like Somalia, Rwanda, Libya, Iran to the nation-states of the former Soviet Republic.
