The I Ching Gift Set by Wu Wei

This is the real deal. A little preparation and knowledge beforehand make for a much richer experience. I bought this gift set instead of the more expensive workbook gift set because I couldn't justify spending more money for the workbook gift set just to get incense, an incense holder, a workbook, and a cloth.

I found this book easy to read, use, and understand. And yes, there is a typo on page 6 referred to in an earlier review "ruins" instead of "runes" , but not nearly as many mistakes as I found in Stephen Karcher's I Ching kit which is also very good, provided you correct the mistakes in it before you use it. Also, when calculating each of the three numbers that are used to determine each of the 6 lines of the hexagram, this book uses the only method I've really found -- based on stalk "remainders" after making groups of 4 -- compared to Karcher, whose instructions seem to disregard the actual number of remainder stalks, instead counting the groups of 4.

Yes, Karcher's method seems a bit simpler, but I need to do more research before relying on it to attempt to determine if the number for the line would come out the same regardless of which method is used relying on number of remainder stalks, or number of groups of four.

It's nice to have the genuine yarrow stalks from China included with the set, although I don't see any problem with buying a bag of a hundred inch bamboo skewers from the supermarket for a couple of bucks. The stalks included in Karcher's I Ching kit actually seem like bamboo, not yarrow which may be why the word "yarrow" is in quotes on the box?

      The I Ching Gift Set

I recommend this item by Wu Wei. Very fun to master. It takes some handwork not too complex I'm not an agile person but I can do the hand movements Very cool gift idea for your more spiritual friends or family members. The book is wonderfully written and explains in as simple of terms how to gain a good reading from the all knowing oracle: The Book of Changes. Modernized slightly for contemporary ears it clearly defines and help you to apply the message the oracle has to send you to your life.

My only warning would be to be careful what you wish for. Be sure you're ready for the answers. Personally I'm looking forward to using this new tool in my life. One person found this helpful. Wu Wei is obviously a master of his trade. His scholarly interpretation of the i-ching, quality of material, workmanship, production, and packaging indicate that he invests time, effort, and love in his work, and has great respect for The Way and those who peaked his interest in the i-ching!

The seller made an excellent choice by handling these items. Though I may not agree that the i-ching coin method is flawed, I do agree that the more you put of yourself into a divination, the better the reading. Tradition began as innovation, after all! The one thing I didn't understand was why a revised version of the I Ching was needed - how can you recreate something that had been used throughout history? Where in the original version, Carl Jung wrote in the preface that he believed the only way it could be explained was by the universe or time forget, it's been a very long time folding over itself and contacting the other folds.

But I finally decided that the new version is an improved translation - at least I hope that's why they revised it.
