Often called Advaita in the East, nonduality describes the singular wholeness of existence that suggests that the personal self is an illusion. Nonduality is the basis of much of ancient Eastern thought, and there is a growing interest in it among Western spiritual seekers. The book covers religious and cultural expressions of nonduality, nondual spiritual practices, and the philosophical underpinnings of the nondual perspective.
It's a sourcebook for understanding this profound perspective and how it relates to our lives.
One conveys what nonduality itself is, in a nonacademic style that draws heavily on modern, popular writing on the subject. This book will captivate and tease. He does a wonderful job of focusing on what is essential our nondual nature , and what is universal our nondual nature , and shows through a variety of traditions that this nonduality is what is most fundamental, and common to our experience of living and being human. As he so simply says, "Nonduality simply means not two, which describes our relationship to truth.
We, and our desires, do not disappear in truth, they simply are seen as not separate. I love how he begins it all with a quote from the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy explains to the Good Witch Glinda how she now knows not to look for it further than her own back yard This book is full of great quotes and encouragements to not look elsewhere, and to respect the completeness of what we already know and do.
Nonduality is sometimes put on a pedestal, but it is good to keep in mind what the great and simple saints and sages have said about it, and remember it is not somehow separate from our most habitual and ordinary experiences; "In the experience of one's own true state of knowledge, one's real nature, the ideas of bondage and liberation do not exist.forum2.quizizz.com/tab-lo-que-nunca-nos-ensearon-1.php
One: Essential Writings on Nonduality
There is no attainment of liberation from bondage in the ultimate state of supreme truth, except in one's own imagination. What's nice about this one is the broad selection of the writings. There is even one from an American Indian. One is from an artist and another from a school educator. There is a Christian one. And of course several Eastern ones. Some are typical and exactly what you would expect, like a section of the Tao Te Ching. But I was pleasantly surprised as well as touched especially by the American Indian, artist and school educator. They had stories that were not as expected.
Not the typical eastern nondual Taoist type speak, but down to earth accounts of real thought and struggle with meaning in real lives of modern people. This is a must for anyone coming from a nondual perspective or accepting of various paths to realization. Purchased this book along with an Advaita book in hopes to understand the arena better.
Easy to read and comprehend. What is the sound of one editor, editing? Deafening, like the roar of many waters, is the silence and peace it can bring! Nonduality is an ancient view of consciousness and being, albeit a minority view. It's what you've always known, but have ever been told is naive and impossible: And the beauty of this realization is nothing less than breathtaking in its arrangement in this volume.
If you're just beginning your inquiry into nonduality, his selections will bless you on your way, while encouraging you to retain the suppleness of 'beginner's mind.
