Just when you think you have the plot figured out, pow, your hit with a new scenario. I don't want to give anything away, but I was glad to see the way the author finished the book. I would definitely read, and look forward to reading, other Kathryn Donahue books. It's a great read. Oct 22, K is for Cathy rated it did not like it Shelves: I was excited to read this book. The previous reviews were so positive.

The book started out interesting. The plot idea was interesting. I grew tired and started skipping parts to finally giving up. Maybe one day I will go back and reread with more interest and find enjoyable to update my review.

We'd love to invite you in

It is however very difficult to describe the book so I will refrain: The stories are about his dogs of course but in a magical way, with pirates, mermaids et all. I totally loved this story with all its turns and twists and phew!

No, it is not your ordinary romance but I highly rec This is such an unusual book and it sucked me in! No, it is not your ordinary romance but I highly recommend. I will look for another book by this author again. Aug 26, Trish rated it it was amazing. I absolutely loved this book. It was so unique and had a lot of unexpected twists in it.

When I first started reading it I thought it was gonna be very boring but I was very wrong about that. It has all kind of emotions in this book. Even some adult parts about abuse and more in it. I can't say much more or else there will be spoilers. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me this arc to read and review! Jan 30, Sharon rated it liked it. I give the first pages 4 stars, but the last pages would only get 2, so I'm splitting the difference. Jan 21, Jen Reardon rated it it was amazing. I found this book at a local author's fair at my public library and was pleasantly surprised to see it's written by my neighbor!

That being said, it's one of the best books I've read in a very long time. The story told is so creative and there is a major plot twist that made me gasp. Feb 01, Anne Turner rated it really liked it. Loved this book, it was funny and I cared about the characters. The dogs were a fun part of the story, but sort of disappeared towards the last part of the book, which was a shame.

Jan 13, Gina rated it really liked it. A fun quirky story. Much more than a romance; definitely more than dogwalking tales. Does start out a bit confusingly but gets better once you understand the basic storyline. Jan 30, Nancy George rated it really liked it. I recommend for anyone who is looking for a fun well written love story.

Dec 30, Amy rated it really liked it Shelves: Funny and quirky romance, with some mystery thrown in. If you enjoyed The Rosie Project, you would probably enjoy this also.

Oct 18, Deborah E Kehoe rated it really liked it. Daniel Ashe, a literary agent in Los Angeles, is jaded about life and love. Salinger he will be out of a job. When he arrives home to a puddle of pee on the floor he hires a dog sitter named Annie Donahue who has left a flier on his door. He meets her in person and although charmed by her Irish accent he is terrified of her red hair, a phobia left over from his childhood. He is determined to fire her Daniel Ashe, a literary agent in Los Angeles, is jaded about life and love.

This starts a funny and animated diary flirtation between the two that sets his literary agent wheels and his heart spinning. Although slow moving, I did find the stories sweet and Annie charming. The second half of the novel was like a different book. The pace was quicker because the story abruptly changed from a sweet clever romance to a romantic thriller.

The change was a little jarring, but the Daniel in the second half of the novel was everything that had been missing in the first; take charge, confident, and driven to succeed. How did I feel about this abrupt shift in pace and yes, even genre? Well, I still enjoyed the book. Although, in my head, they were two separate novels with the same characters that ultimately reached a happy ending.

When I finished the book, I was happy that those two found their HEA but a little confused at the plot shifts that got them there. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review, and it was honest! Aug 28, Christie72 rated it it was amazing Shelves: I will go ahead and tell you that this book is in the top 10 reads for me for as well as an all-time favorite read! Who knew two people could fall in love by writing to one another in a dog walking journal!!!

This is just one of the elements of this book that made it so very witty and clever. Daniel is a literary agent that has given up on love and somewhat on his own dream of being a writer. When he hires Annie, he really has no clue how much his life is going to change. Both Daniel and Annie are quirky characters that will stay with me for quite some time. Oh my gosh, Daniel has a hilarious phobia of redheads, and guess what Annie is an Irish redhead. How the writer did that so well amazed me! For example, there were diary entries chronicling the secret lives of his dogs, along with some twists added in as well.

I have two favorite things in life My expectations were blown out of the water. I always say there is a difference between a story and a book. A story captures my mind and my heart, and this book did that. Donahue is much more that just a writer; she is a storyteller. Dec 10, Anne Wolfe rated it really liked it. That's the only way to describe my reaction to The dog Walker's Diary.

MODERATORS

If, as Kathryn Donahue says, the first sentence is what makes a book a best-seller then she had it made on Page 1! With some good word-of-mouth and decent publicity, this could also be a major motion picture. I'd have finished reading it a lot sooner except I couldn't bear to end the experience and leave this very different and totally delightful novel's pages.

Daniel is an agent and editor for a Los An Beguiled and bewitched! Daniel is an agent and editor for a Los Angeles literary agency with a difficult boss and a shrinking window of opportunity to sign or produce a successful book or screenplay. Enter Annie, a flaming redhead from Ireland with the talent of Sheherazade. She has come to apply for the job of dog walker. Daniel, having been previously traumatized by a redheaded child who is responsible for his chronic insomnia , throws her against the door. There begins a whirlwind tale of fantasy, adventure, mystery and literary skullduggery, which includes some adorable dogs.

About ten minutes into the walk, the sounds around me began to slowly fade away. The voices, the barking, the laughing, even the birds chirping. Like someone was turning the volume down until it was completely mute. The two dogs I was walking stopped in their tracks. I tugged a bit, whistling to them, jumping at the sheer volume of my own voice. When I looked at them, they were completely still, both of their heads turned perfectly sideways. And by sideways, I mean completely sideways, it looked like they had broken their necks, one ear facing the sky, the other towards the grass.

Panicking, I looked around. Every single person in the park that I could see was frozen in place, heads turned sideways. They all stood there, sickeningly quiet, for what felt like hours. Then, as suddenly as it happened, their heads snapped back into place and the sounds of the world started up again. Everyone continued to walk and laugh, dogs continued to play, my dogs continued to walk. I was covered in sweat, my throat dry. The dogs pulled me along and I just kept going. Thanks for letting me sit here and ramble on about my weird days as a dog walker. I'm just super impressed you grabbed Cooper before jetting out of the creepy, upside-down girl place.

Share more of your experiences! And always be careful. Wish you courage and strength. I would have straight up needed to go home, shower, and put on fresh clothes after seeing drippy upside down girl because I am would have shit kittens! Girl ghosts with long dark hair freak the hell outta me, I guess they remind me of The Grudge or The Ring's creepy ass spirits.
